*NEW* Horse Show Opportunities
The opportunity to practice for a show is motivating and exciting for students. We enter the local Dauphin horse show July long weekend every year and want to give students an opportunity to compete. We also intend to run practice shows here at camp to give additional opportunities and an alternative in case covid restrictions don’t allow for the larger shows.
Show Prep Lessons
- These classes are for students who have done at least one season of advanced lessons or have their own horse and are hoping to bring their horse to local shows. Students can sign for the specific lessons that they intend to show in. The material will be on what the rules of the class are, what the judge is looking for, and what tack and clothing are required. The lessons will be Thursdays from 7:15 – 8:45, register and pay online then contact
- – Showmanship and Halter Classes
- Students will learn all the maneuvers that may be in a showmanship class and what the judge is looking for in halter classes. Also how to prepare the horse to look its best
- – Western Pleasure and Reining
- Students will learn what is expected in a western rail class and what the judge is looking for
- Students will learn all the maneuvers that may be in a reining pattern and some common patterns to practice.
- – English Flat Classes – Dressage, Equitation, Show Hack, Road Hack
- Students will learn all the maneuvers that may be in a dressage pattern and some common patterns to practice.
- Students will learn what is expected in each rail class and what the judge is looking for.
- – Trail and Ranch Hand
- Students will learn the various obstacles in a trail and ranch class and what come common patterns look like
- – Jumping – Hunter, Jumper, and Equitation
- Students will learn basic courses at the various heights and what is expected for each class
- – Horsemanship
- Students will learn all the maneuvers that may be in a horsemanship pattern and some common patterns to practice.
- – Gymkhana – barrels, poles, stake
- Students will learn the rules for the races and how to practice to run the patterns well
- – Games – egg and spoon, musical chairs, run-lead-ride, boot race, sack race, keyhole. Students will practice the games so they and their horse are prepared
Camp Horse Lease for showing – For students who have been in advanced for at least one season and approved by the horsemanship director.
- They would lease a camp horse for the weekend show in Dauphin and be entered along with the Dauphin Bible Camp entry. The lease includes hauling the horse to the show, the stall fee, and the feed during.
- The cost is $150 for the lease plus the entry fees for classes. The student will receive any winnings they win in classes.
- Students are responsible to do all the care for the horse during the show, including bathing, feeding/watering, mucking the stall, and being tacked up and ready for classes.
Practice Rides – For students who want to come and practice riding for the show outside of riding lessons.
- Students will catch, groom, tack up, and put away the horse themselves. They can ride only in the arenas and may use the arena equipment to set up patterns.
- The horsemanship director will be present to ensure safety but will not give teaching instruction. The dates of these opportunities will be sent out weekly to those eligible.
- The cost is $15 for 1.5 hours
