Intermediate Level

Intermediate –

Is for students who are confident riding the trot and are ready to refine their skills and learn to lope. All students should expect to do intermediate for multiple years as they gain confidence and knowledge.

Skills Needed Before Intermediate

• Confident to catch, lead, and tack up their horse
• Confident at the trot
  • Can trot around the entire arena without following a staff or another horse
  • Can steer while trotting – in a circle and weaving
  • Can do a sitting and posting while riding the trot

Skills Learned

• Ground work techniques and lunging
• Trotting control – sitting, standing, posting correct diagonals
• Body Control – balance, and weight
• Loping – transitions, balance, rate
• Patterns – with greater difficulty and speed
• Gymkhana, obstacle course, arena patterns

• English – saddle, position, hunter jumping course
